Candle sconces are making a huge comeback since their debut in Classical antiquity, between the 8th century BC and 6th Century AD centered on the Mediterranean Sea. So yeah, they’ve been around for a while. They became more elaborate and popular during the Middle Ages in Europe. Even now in 2022 they are still widely popular; they have yet to go out of style.
Candle sconces are classic and timeless, so I don’t consider them a “trend” even though they are seen everywhere. When you think candle sconces, you’re probably thinking of taper candle sconces, but there are also pillar candle sconces and they are just as gorgeous.
One thing I love about candle sconces is that they’re super easy to install, which means no hardwiring involved. But there’s also a huge con if you’re looking for something to give your room some light, candle sconces aren’t the way to go as they don’t provide a lot of light. They’re perfect if you want to light a candle and place it on a sconce for a calm evening but if you’re looking for a sconce to light up a dark hallway, skip the candle sconce.
Although you can absolutely light a candle sconce, I think they are best used for décor. Candle sconces add character and personality to any room and the more elaborate the better!
Although candle sconces are more on the traditional side of the design style spectrum, especially candelabra sconces, they are many modern sconces out there. Proving they’re versatile and perfect for any design style.
I hope that you love candle sconces as much as I do! I’ve included a few of my favorites below!
Until next time!
