Are you looking for a way to display that beautiful vase or bust? Put it on a pedestal!
I’ve seen a growing trend of pedestals beyond those you see at the museum. Pedestals are perfect for displaying those pieces that deserve the spotlight. Not only are pedestals the perfect way to display jaw-dropping sculptures or those unique family heirlooms but they also add elegance to a room. This design feature is also the perfect way to add some height to a room.
Pedestals are the perfect solution to filling up that empty corner. You can get creative and pair it with another object such as an accent chair, standing cabinet, or faux tree/plant. When pairing a pedestal with something else, make sure that whatever it is doesn’t steal the pedestal’s thunder along with the art you’re displaying. This is easily done by saving that unique shaped accent chair for another part of the room and going with a simpler cabinet.
When finding objects to place on a pedestal I believe that the more unique the object is the better. Although pedestals are mainly seen displaying sculptures or busts you can also utilize them to display an urn or vase with greenery or florals. When picking a pedestal to display art, I like to pick something that isn’t complicated; simpler than the art being displayed. You don’t want to overshadow what you’re displaying.
Not sure what deserves the spotlight or shelf? Here are some questions you could ask yourself to make sure you’re displaying the perfect pedestal piece:
- Does it have a unique and interesting shape?
- Does it always catch your eye when walking into the room it’s currently living in?
- Does it have a textural surface?
Have an object you want to display but what to keep the room from looking too fancy? There’s a way to do that while keeping your space casual! Studio McGee did this perfectly by picking a simple pedestal with clean lines. This elevates the room without making it look too sophisticated. This is proof that pedestals are very versatile and look amazing in any space.
Adding a pedestal is a great way to add height to a room. I love adding pedestals in a room where the sofa and coffee table are lower to the floor. Balance is essential and adding a pedestal to a room with furniture that’s lower to the ground is an easy fix. You can also use a pedestal to add character to a room. If you have a room that’s filled with clean crisp lines add a wooden pedestal or one that has some shape to it. Add a pedestal that has some color to make a monochrome or neutral room pop!
Don’t let your show-stopping piece sit on a shelf and collect dust, find a pedestal and display it for all to see!
Until next time!
