A console table may be the first thing your guests see when they walk into your home so make an excellent first impression. You definitely don’t have to go above and beyond when styling a console table, in some cases, it’s better to go minimal but make sure it makes a statement.
Don’t Forget About Visual Weight
When styling anything, it’s always important to take visual weight into account. There needs to be a balance of decor, which means if you’re adding a larger lamp to a table, stay away from incorporating large-scale greenery or other tall stems. Use books to give height to low decor or give some height to an object that is the same height as other objects.
This image from McGee & Co. is the perfect example! Everything on the console table is at a different height. This makes the design interesting and it’s more appealing to the eye. I love that the lamp and florals are both high but one is higher than the other. This is better than adding another shorter vase to match the size of the bowl because it will make the side of the table where the lamp looks heavier.
Add Buffet Lamps
Placing high buffet lamps on a console table is a classic and timeless look. I love this especially if your entryway/foyer doesn’t get sunlight. This design choice is beautiful and efficient.
Keep it Simple
There is no need to go above and beyond when styling your console table. Although your entryway should make a statement, you can still do that with minimal decor. It’s best to keep it simple if your hanging large-scale art above the console table or a gallery wall. I also love going with a minimal approach if there is a large and intriguing mirror hanging above a console table. Doing this will add more to the space without taking away from whatever is hanging above the console table.
With this beautiful large-scale art, the single vase with stem is more than enough decor!
Add Statement Pieces
Console tables are a great way to display statement pieces like large-scale greenery or unique sculptures. You can use console tables to display that sculpture that makes you swoon.
Incorporate Books
Books are great for bookshelves (duh), and coffee tables and they’re also perfect for console tables. I love using books to add color and height to objects. They are perfect for adding height to an item that is surrounded by taller items. This will help keep the balance on the console table without having to get rid of that short item.
Add Artwork
Recently I have been seeing a lot of table styling with artwork sitting on the table and I have to say I’m all here for this look. Doing this instead of hanging something on the wall above your console table is a great way to give the console table all of the character and personality.
I hope these tips help you design the most gorgeous console table!
Until next time!
