Get The Size Right
When someone says sculptures you may think of large scale that belong in a museum, but small sculptures also exist. These are perfect for placing on top of a stack of books or decorating a bookshelf. While larger sculptures look better alone, you can use smaller-scale art to finish off of vignette. Larger sculptures are also perfect for bookcases and can also be placed on a pedestal. I wouldn’t place a larger sculpture on top of a book because you don’t want to give height to something that already has some.
Display it at Eye View
The general rule of thumb for all art is to display it at eye level because it will be hard for someone to miss. Don’t let your beautiful sculptures go to waste because they have been missed due to the fact that they are displayed too high or too low. I love placing a sculpture at eye level especially if it is placed somewhere with a lot going on, such as a bookcase.
Style Matters, Match it
Pick pieces that reflect the design of the room. If you place an abstract sculpture in a room with a classic mood, it will look out of place and throw off the look of the room. Pick something that compliments the style of the room and stay away from sculptures that may conflict with the design.
Keep Color and Texture in Mind
Sculptures come in different sizes and colors, Here is where I contradict myself; my favorite sculpture is the Judy Bust from CB2 because although it is very vintage looking, the sleek black matte finish is perfect for a modern space. The finish of this sculpture makes it versatile.
Pair a Sculpture With Artwork
You can do this with both large and small sculptures. I love placing artwork on the wall next to a pedestal with a sculpture. This is a very classic design and looks amazing in any style home.
Sculptures, whether big or small, are the perfect addition to any design and vignette. They have the power to elevate your space and add a “WOW!” factor.
