I’ve been trying to put myself out of my comfort zone and use more color in my designs. I love neutrals and always will but color is so fun! It can be intimidating to work with color, I know it is for me. You can use a thousand shades of neutral in a space and it will always look amazing but that doesn’t translate to using multiple different colors.
The Inspiration
One of the first things I like to pick out when I start a design is a rug. This is because I like to choose a rug that matches the color of the furniture and also one that will allow me to pull colors from to decorate a space. A lot of the time (more like every time) I’ll pull colors from the rug to decorate the room. For this design, I was entirely inspired by the Revery Rug from Anthropology.
This rug is so beautiful and has the most perfect combination of colors. I love the design and how it overall completes the look of the space.
The Color Palette
This color palette is a lot different than what I am used to. Of course, I had to include neutrals! I think the red-stained wood furniture really did it for in with this one. All different shades of red make this space pop and the different contrast of colors keeps it from looking like one red blob. Using neutral shades for the sofa and decorative accents offsets all of the red and gives the space that much-needed dimension.
The Furniture and Décor
I always try to use furniture of different fabrics and textures to make the space look more unique. These wood and velvet accent chairs pair so well with the leather bench. I love that the colors look good together too and they don’t clash. The accent chairs I found from Urban Outfitters are gorgeous and my favorite part of the design. The style is simple, yet beautiful and the color immediately caught my eye. Normally I wouldn’t go for a velvet chair or furniture in general, but this chair is an exception.
This design is pretty mid-century/modern and I wanted to give it a little twist. I did this by adding these two gorgeous prints from Etsy.
Vintage Textile Wall Art Print
I love vintage prints in general but these two have to be my new favorites. I purposely included prints with more of a red hue, and let me tell you they were not easy to find. They add so much character to this design and after all, I did need something to fill that space.
Yet another beauty from Urban Outfitters, the side tables were just the perfect touch! They include all of the colors in the design and even match the slight color blue you see in this rug from Anthropology. Yet small, this piece ties everything together!
For the decor, I pulled existing colors from the furniture to add to this space. My favorite place to get all things floral and these two dried florals were just the perfect touches.

Until next time!
