This is a new twist to a previous design that I created. I love improving my work and I love showcasing how I have developed as a designer by redoing old designs. Redoing old designs is a great way to see how I have developed as a designer because I am able to see how I decorate spaces differently when I look back at an older project. In addition, I want to show that you can upgrade a space by adding a few touches, without breaking the bank or completely redoing the space.
For this blog post, I wanted to share why I decided to add certain things to my previous design and why I kept some things the way they were. Don’t fix what isn’t broken, right?
Out with the old…
and in with the new!
Had to Change
This outdoor space design is one of my favorites I have created but I wanted to change it because I felt that there needed to be a bit more color in this space. I love neutrals and the hue of this space is perfect but the addition of bright color in this space is exactly what it needed!
When I looked at the previous design, the first thing I thought was, “this space needs stools”, so enter these gorgeous blue stools from Crate and Barrel. This design already has color, but these navy-blue stools make the rest of the blue in this space pop!
I wanted this space to be a little homier and cozier, so I decided to add these blue and white outdoor pillows from Target.
These pillows are such a great dupe to the Deauville Pillow Cover from Serena and Lilly. At less than a 10th of the price of this pillow cover, you can get the same look from Target without the added expense of having to buy a pillow insert as well.
These Mid-Century lanterns from West Elm are one of my favorite products from the store! These fit so well in this design in terms of the color and the design adds a little bit of character to this coastal space.
Had to Stay
I wanted to keep the original furniture and rug from my previous design since that is the base of it and changing the furniture would completely change the design. That is not what I was going for! I wanted to upgrade the space by changing the décor and showing that you do not need to buy all new furniture and decor to make a space look better!
This outdoor furniture set from Lulu and Georgia is perfect for any outdoor space! They are also perfect for an indoor space such as a sunroom or enclosed balcony. I love that the colors are subtle and allow you to pair them with any color décor.
One thing I love adding to an outdoor design (or any design really) is a stone coffee table. This stone table also from Lulu and Georgia instantly caught my eye and it was a match made in heaven because it was the perfect addition to this design!
They pair beautifully with this rug that is also Lulu and Georgia pairs beautifully with the furniture, giving this space the subtle pop of color that it needs! Its unique design adds character and dimension to the space
The artificial blue caspia from Afloral is one of my favorites. It is used as a vase filler, but I love it all on its own. I bought this myself and added it to a vase with a variety of faux white flowers; however, I plan to buy more and fill a vase with just the blue caspia. Paired with one of my personal favorites, the Quin vase of Pottery Barn, this duo had to stay in the upgrade of the design.
