If you have a small home, adding too much can make it feel cluttered and take functionality away from the home. Making a small home livable can be a challenge but it isn’t impossible. With these few tips, you’ll have your small space looking a lot bigger.
Less is More
Think minimal and reduce clutter. Adding too much to an already small space can make it feel even smaller. Get rid of everything that isn’t absolutely necessary in the room and add just a few decorative pieces.
Mirrors Are Your Best Friend
A small but impactful change; mirrors have the power to make a small room look bigger. Mirrors reflect light which allows it to bounce around the room, adding depth to your room.
Large Statement Pieces
It may make sense to add multiple smaller furniture items to the room to keep with the scale of your small space but this look is outdated. Instead, add a large statement piece and one or two smaller pieces. For example: a chaise paired with an accent chair and small side table may be just what you need.
You Can Easily Add Height to Your Ceilings
My favorite way to do this is by hanging curtains close to the ceiling and have them almost kiss the floor. If you have a gallery wall hang it high, close to the ceiling.
Keep it Simple
A neutral and simple color palette is important in making your small space look bigger. Make sure to avoid busy patterns as well as bold colors as these design choices can completely engulf the room.
Pay Attention to Lighting
If you have low ceiling, avoid low hanging lighting such as pendants and chandeliers. Flush mounts and sconces are the best fixtures to add to small spaces and rooms with low ceilings.
