Have a room in your home that needs some light? I’ve come up with some ways to make your windowless rooms or small spaces a little lighter. I know exactly what it’s like having a room that is just plain DARK. In the first apartment, my husband and I got, our bedroom window was blocked by tall bushes and an ever taller tree, so we got no light in our bedroom. To make matters worse, we didn’t even have lights in the ceiling so it was extra dark. Back then I didn’t care much about interior design but looking back I sometimes think about what I could have done to liven up the room. I’ve come up with some tips and tricks to make your dark room lighter!
Liven Up the Room with Greenery
Greenery makes a huge difference in a dark room! I would definitely go with faux greenery instead of real especially if it’s going in a room with no windows. Florals are even better before they will add some much-needed color as well.
Go With Lighter Furniture and Textures
If you want a dark room to feel lighter it’s best to stay away from black furniture or darker stained woods. You can add lighter color bedding to your bed to make it lighter.
For your dark bathroom, you can do this by adding a light color shower curtain and hand towels.
Artwork Makes a Difference
Lighten up a dark room with art of vibrant colors or lighter colors. When choosing artwork make sure not to overdo it, doing something like a gallery wall in a dark room might now be the way to go. This is because the more room you take up, the darker the room will seem.
Lights … and Then Even More Lights
Lamps are your best friend! A dark room can seem lighter when there are multiple light sources. Add sconces above the nightstand, and then add a lamp in the corner with a mirror or accent chair to create a cozy sitting area. This will make the room seem lighter as you’re bringing in even more light! You can add candles to the bathroom to make it feel lighter.

Embrace the Darkside
Sometimes you have to embrace the chaos and give in. A dark moody bathroom can be turned from something dreadful to a luxe space.
I hope these tips make your dark room a little lighter.
Until next time!
