I started making design boards because I thought it was a great way to display my design visions. I had no idea how to make a 3D rendered image or how to use the millions of rendering softwares out there. I tried almost every single 3D rendering software imaginable and I ended up being more confused than when I started, then I discovered Roomstyler.com. This website is free, no download is needed, and most importantly it is 100% user friendly. It’s perfect for a beginner and just an all-around budget-friendly option.
3D Rendering
Roomstyler.com makes it easy to complete a 3D design. To get started I simply watched all of the “how to” videos Roomstyler has uploaded onto their YouTube channel (click here to watch). After an hour I learned how to use Roomstyler and create a flawless design. Roomstyler is free and there is no need to download the program.
This website contains a huge catalog of furniture, architectural accents, paint colors, flooring, plants, trees, and so much more. Although Roomstyler has many decor and furniture options, I like using a different outlet to place furniture from real stores into my 3D rendered space. I love to use this because its real-life purchasable products instead of generic furniture.
Canva
I use Canva to create my designs that are with and without a 3D background. Canva makes it very easy to upload an imagine and manipulate it by allowing you to place it wherever you would like.
When using a 3D background in my design, I upload the design onto Canva, adjust the image to fit the canvas, then I upload the images for furniture and decor I am using, remove the background, crop, adjust the size and place. It’s that easy!
Background Removal
I love using the background remover effect to remove the background on my images.
Note: Although Canva is free to use to all, using this effect requires a subscription.
This works best when the image of the product is on a white background because the background gets removed seamlessly. There are cases where you may have to remove the background manually (can only be done the website). I like to then crop the image to make it easier to move around. When using the background remover effect I found that it’s easier when using an image with a white background rather than one that has other objects in the background. When using an image with objects behind it, those objects get “stuck” to the one you’re trying to get the background removed from. If this happens you’ll have to manually remove the background on the Canva website. Or Canva will tell you that the “background cannot be removed”.
Creating an Illusion of a Real Room
When using both a blank canvas or a 3D background I like to change the size of images, making them smaller or bigger so it gives the illusion that the images are actually in the room. Such as the image below, I adjusted the size of the Credenza, print of the horse, sconces, etc. to make it look like they are further away in the room and behind the arched doorway.
I hope that this was helpful in teaching you how to create your own design.
Until next time!
